New ‘Alien’ movie confirmed

Written By Lewis Mainwaring

A new Alien movie is officially in development.

Neill Blomkamp is to direct the film, with Ridley Scott on board as producer.

“So I think this is officially my next film,” Blomkamp wrote on  his Instagram account on Wednesday night (February 18).

Blomkamp had previously revealed via Instagram that he has been working on the latest installment of the franchise.

However there were suggestions that the new Alien movie was to be abandoned, until Blomkamp’s latest Instagram post.

Sigourney Weaver also recently admitted that she would be interested in reprising her Alien role as Ellen Ripley if Blomkamp’s project went ahead, but it is as yet unclear whether Weaver is officially involved.

Sigourney Weaver (Alien)

“Blomkamp kept sending me these brilliant designs and ideas and everything. We’ll see what happens”.

This is not the first time Weaver has shown interest in reprising her role. In 2014, she hinted that she was interested in returning to the role of Ripley, considering that the ending to Resurrection:-

“[…] feels incomplete to me. I wish it didn’t, but it does. We left it hanging. And there’s a way to finish this story that I think would be satisfying to me and the many fans.”

She added that Ripley is “an existential hero” with a firm “moral compass [however] if we done a fifth one, I doubt that her humanity would have prevailed”.

This news will definitely excite fans of the franchise, hopefully tie up ‘loose ends’ and is an excellent excuse to re-watch the franchise from start to current finish  (not like I need an excuse).
