Horror Month: Interview with Robbi Morgan (Friday the 13th)

Horror Month – June 2015

Continuing our Friday the 13th week! We interview the actress who played Annie Phillips in the original film!

“I loved working with Sean Cunningham and the rest of the team”

What led you to become an actress?

My mother and father were vaudevillians so I was singing and dancing from birth.  It was just what our family did.  I started doing commercials as a baby and continued on from there.

What was your experience working on the iconic film Friday the 13th?

I only worked two days. I was thrilled to get the job. From the moment I took the train to Connecticut  to meet Tom Savini who was making the latex mold for my neck, it was totally fun! I loved with Sean Cunningham and the rest of the team.

Are you still in touch with anyone from the film?

I’ve seen Sean and Adrienne at events from time to time.  I saw Tom Savini at an airport and came up to him and said “Hey, you killed me!”  And we had a laugh and a hug!

When filming the original Friday did you or your cast mates expect it to become one of the biggest franchises ever?

No one had any idea. We were all just grateful to have an acting job.  It didn’t seem like a big deal. It was a low-budget shoot and, as I said, alot of fun, but at 17 years old, I was not really thinking about if it was going to be a big hit or not. I was just in the moment!  🙂

Are you a fan of horror films?

Not really! too scary! I like musicals!

If you could play any role from any film ever, what would it be?

I don’t know what role I would’ve wanted to play.  I love Susan Sarandon’s work. I love Diane Keaton in all of Woody Allen’s movies.  Of course , Meryl streep in anything.  I don’t think in terms of roles. I just enjoy what I’m doing in the moment.

What is your all time favourite film?

“Singing In The Rain”, “Shawshank Redemption”, “Forrest Gump” , “Apollo 13”, “The Turning Point”, “Terms of Endearment”.

 Who are your influence?

Shirley MacLaine, Chita Rivera, Gwen Verdon.  While I am proud to be in Friday the 13th, in my core, I’m a musical theatre girl.

Do you have any upcoming projects?

There’s a film project in Italy that is being developed.

Final question, who is more scary, Jason or Mrs Voorhees?

Well, since Mrs V got me, I’d have to say she’s a bad mutha! hahah!
