Star Wars: The Force Awakens has continued its record-setting run around the world.
JJ Abrams‘ continuation of the space saga became the biggest-ever film at the UK box office on Friday (January 8), and now China’s opening has led to some more records.
Disney is reporting that with an estimated opening day gross of $33m on Saturday (January 9), The Force Awakens has posted the highest Disney opening day ever in China and the highest Saturday opening day in industry history.
The highest-grossing film of all time in China is currently Fast & Furious 7 with a staggering $390.9m.
As part of the marketing push in China to raise awareness of Star Wars, 500 stormtroopers took to the Great Wall for the trailer debut and the first six movies were made available online in June.
