Interview with Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

nicholas-brendan-768We spoke with actor/writer Nicholas Brendon; best known for his time on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

The biggest project is … project of life. Right now, I am really focusing on myself. I am getting back to me and that’s a project in itself. In the midst of all my successes, have been many challenges, and I am not afraid to admit that. I am human and the project right now is me.

You portrayed the role of Xander Harris in Buffy the Vampire Slayer – how would you describe this experience?

It was the most wonderful experience of my life. I miss and love that Xander Harris.

Buffy-cast

Are you still in touch with any of the cast/crew?

Yes of course. Yes, I am still in contact with the majority of the cast and crew. All are very wonderful people and it’s enjoyable to stay in contact and watch how our lives manifested post Buffy.

Over the seasons Xander provided much needed comic relief – did this come easily?

Ahhhhh. Yes. Too easily.

Which is your favourite episode of the show?

Once More with Feeling
or Hush.

Would you ever want to see a revival of Buffy?

Only if Joss was a part of it. You can have a wonderful show but it can only remain wonderful with the brilliance that started it.

19 years on since the show first aired and the fans are still loving it! What do you want to say to your fans?

Thank you all so much for supporting me and loving me! Thank you for knowing what quality I know the show has gotten many people through some touch times, and my fans and the show have gotten me through some tough times.

Do you enjoy writing for the Buffy comics?

19gdywek6uc8ujpg

Yes, I love it. It’s nice to put comical words back in Xander’s mouth!

How has the character of Xander developed from TV to comics?

Xander doesn’t get his ass kicked as much. Lot’s of Xander minus the bullying?

How would you describe working with legend Joss Whedon?

It was the best experience of my life… It’s not something you can put into words. I almost think it surpasses the birth of my first child…… when I have one of course!

Post Buffy which has been your favourite role?

Criminal-Minds-5x21-Exit-Wounds-Kevin-Lynch-Cap_mid

Kevin Lynch from Criminal Minds. He is Xander 2.0.

How did you become involved with the charity Stuttering Foundation of America?

When I was a kid, I had a horrific stutter. Once I shared that with the public, once they found this out…they asked me. I said yes because I want to help others that have to be in a place where people look at you funny, assume you are slow, roll their eyes at you… having a stutter is a condition not a character defect or reason to be labeled stupid.

What is your favourite movie of all time?

North by Northwest…

What is your favourite TV Show of of all time?

Good question… not sure I can say one show is my favorite show of all time. Chips? Three’s Company? Love the Death Row Stories… tv has evolved so much it’s crazy.

Do you have any plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Buffy next year?

Yes, I am going to Disneyland! Not sure to be honest. It’s hard to think so far ahead. Even harder to think that it was 20 years ago.

Do you have any upcoming projects?

The biggest project is … project of life. Right now, I am really focusing on myself. I am getting back to me and that’s a project in itself. In the midst of all my successes, have been many challenges, and I am not afraid to admit that. I am human and the project right now is me.

How is 2016 going for you?

If it were any better it would be illegal. I am looking forward to lots of laughing, loving, and living life the way that I have always dreamed. There is a lot to come from me. It’s exciting to find that again.
