Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)
Captain Jack (John Barrowman) is joined on his latest mission by field specialist, Jo Jones (Katy Manning). They are on the trail of some rather familiar large maggot creatures, but they have changed. Can the best of Torchwood and the Doctor’s friends raise to meet the challenge? Can they agree on the best methods to do so?This really is everything you could want from a Torchwood / Who crossover. One of the all time favourite characters, a great classic monster that wasn’t explored passed their initial adventure and John Barrowman as Jack, just being him!
They explore some issues which are sadly still as relevant today as they were during the Green Death in classic Who relating to the environment, how we treat animals we fear and the meat industries more questionable practices.
To begin with this seems like an enjoyable procedural monster tale, which I would have happily taken. Then we get the friction between our two heroes, a handful of flirting (pun intended) and a twist to send it to the next level. One to please both fans of Jo Grant / Jones and Torchwood alike. 9/10
