Filming is currently underway on the next installment of the Saw franchise, with Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV) back in the director’s chair.
The Organ Donor, which is from an idea by comedian Chris Rock, had originally been set to bring the twisted traps back into theaters on October 23, 2020, but has now been brought forward.
Bloody Disgusting reported today that the new release date for the film will be May 15, 2020.
This is a huge show of confidence from Lionsgate, and also no doubt a response from the studio to last week’s news that Halloween Kills will be hitting theaters on October 16, 2020.
The Saw franchise had a long tradition of releasing new instalments in October ready for the Halloween horror crowd.
Chris Rock will play a police detective investigating a series of grisly crimes and Samuel L. Jackson will portray Rock’s father.
Also joining the cast will be Max Minghella (Horns, The Darkest Hour) who will play William Schenk, Rock’s partner and Marisol Nichols (Scream 2, Riverdale) will play Capt. Angie Garza, Rock’s boss.
There’s still no word on if we’ll see Tobin Bell‘s Jigsaw in this new installment.
The only other movie slated for the May 15, 2020 date is Warner Bros’ new Scooby Doo animated feature, voice starring Will Forte and Gina Rodriguez.
