Morbius Trailer Released: Confirming Sony Movie Is In MCU

Sony Pictures today released the upcoming Morbius movie trailer, confirming the studio’s Spider-Man villain films are in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Focusing on the Marvel Comics character Morbius the Living Vampire, Sony’s upcoming comic book movie stars Jared Leto as the movies anti-hero.

“Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease.”

The movie is part of Sony’s Marvel Universe inspired by Spider-Man characters which began with 2018’s Venom.

We knew that Spider-Man was going to stay a part of the MCU following on from last years brief divorce. However this trailer gives us an unexpected merge between Sony Marvel Universe and the MCU.

The trailer ends with an appearance from Michael Keaton‘s Vulture, reprising his role from Spider-Man: Homecoming, which firmly places Morbius in the MCU!

Also during the trailer, Morbius (Leto) walks past an image of Spider-Man (Tom Holland) with the word “murderer” scrawled across it.

That’s clearly a reference to Far From Home‘s post credits sequence that saw Spidey framed for Mysterio’s (Jake Gyllenhaal) crimes.

Morbius is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 31, 2020.
