Disney head Bob Iger has confirmed the release date of Disney+ original series The Mandalorian‘s Season 2.
Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed today (4th Feb) on a quarterly earnings call that season 2 of The Mandalorian will arrive this October.
Iger also floated the possibility of infusing The Mandalorian with more characters and taking their “stories in new directions,” nodding to potential for spinoff series.
The Mandalorian, also known as Star Wars: The Mandalorian, is an American space Western web television series that premiered on Disney+ on November 12, 2019. The show stars Pedro Pascal in the title role.
Set in the Star Wars universe, the series takes place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and follows a Mandalorian bounty hunter beyond the reaches of the New Republic.
Merchandise based on the breakout hit character from the Disney+ series has been making its way out slowly and surely, including the much anticipated Baby Yoda Funko Pop!
The chief exec disclosed that Disney+, as of Monday, had accrued 28.6 million paying subscribers. By Dec. 28, the streamer had 26.5 million paid subscriptions, per the company’s quarterly report.
Release dates for other highly anticipated new series were also announced — The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is coming in August and WandaVision will arrive in December.
