Sony Pictures has announced moved the release date of Ghostbusters: Afterlife from once more from March 2021 to June 11, 2021, which will be the same weekend as the first Ghostbusters film was released in 1984. It becomes the latest tentpole shift in the theatrical calendar given the ongoing restrictions of movie theaters amid the pandemic. The film originally had a July 10, 2020 release date before it was moved this past March due to the coronavirus.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman from a screenplay by Reitman and Gil Kenan. Ivan Reitman, who directed the original two Ghostbusters films, and returns for this one as a producer.
The film stars Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Logan Kim and Celeste O’Connor.
Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts will reprise their roles from the original films.
