DVD Review: The Doctors – Heroes and Villians (Koch Media)

THE DOCTORS: HEROES AND VILLAINS is a newly filmed DVD release set of interviews with the team of actors who brought the heroes and villains in Doctor Who to life and sent you ‘behind the sofa’! This production is distributed Koch Media; the company behind Doctor Who spin-offs such as Wartime (starring John Levene) and the Mindgame Saga (starring Sophie Aldred).

“For all Doctor Who fans, this 2-disc special collector’s edition is 5 hours of pure nostalgia, which will give you a whole new insight into the making of your favourite science fiction series!”

These six interviews/mini-documentaries include:
Prentis Hancock (‘Vaber’ – Planet of the Daleks, ‘Salamar’ – Planet of Evil, ‘Shrieve’ Captain – The Ribos Operation)
Geoffrey Beevers (‘The Master’ – The Keeper of Traken)
Angus Lennie (‘Storr’ – The Ice Warriors, ‘Angus’ – Terror of the Zygons)
Shane Rimmer (‘Seth’ – The Gunfighters)
Kai Owen (‘Rhys Williams’ – Torchwood)
Nick Joseph (who played roles too numerous to list)

The interviews are presented by Robert Dick, Martin Parsons and ‘voice of the DaleksNicholas Briggs. And including a special introduction by presenter Robert Dick & producer Keith Barnfather.

The intimate and informal nature of these interviews means that the stars are perhaps more at ease than in a normal interview or panel so there are some more interesting and insightful subjects discussed than you might have seen elsewhere and it gives an idea of what it was like for these actors working on the show although there will be some repetition for those that have seen previous interviews/panels with these stars.

The filmed introduction is quite rambling and possibly with one too many inside jokes but it does do a great job of setting the scene for when and where each of the interviews were filmed. All in all this set is great addition for an avid classic who collector or for those looking for more insight into how the series was made and the people involved.

The set is available to order now from Amazon.

Also available in the range is THE DOCTORS: THE PETER DAVISON YEARS

The set includes in-depth interviews ever undertaken with:
Janet Fielding (Tegan)
Sarah Sutton (Nyssa)
Matthew Waterhouse (Adric)
Mark Strickson (Turlough)
Anthony Ainley (The Third Master)

Plus it includes two special featurettes  featuring Peter Davison and his assistants at 1980s Doctor Who conventions!
