Ahead of The Witcher season 2 resuming filming in August, Netflix has announced a new series called’ The Witcher: Blood Origin’. It’s a six-part prequel spin-off set 1200 years before the events of The Witcher. We haven’t heard much about this series recently but today it was announced that Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim) will join the series in a leading role.
Turner-Smith will play a warrior named Éile, who was blessed with the voice of a goddess and leaves her clan and role as the queen’s guardian to follow her heart and embark on a journey as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption.
Declan de Barra, a writer on Season 1 of “The Witcher,” will act as executive producer and showrunner. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will act as executive producer; she is executive producer and showrunner on Seasons 1 and 2 of “The Witcher.”
Andrzej Sapkowski, who penned the original “Witcher” book series on which the Netflix show is based, will serve as creative consultant on the prequel series. Jason Brown and Sean Daniel from Hivemind and Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from Platige Films also will each serve as executive producers.
