Official plot synopsis released for “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”

“Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai” puts an animated spin on the popular horror-comedy franchise, with the series coming to HBO Max.

The half-hour animated series from WB Animation and Amblin TV is set 1920s Shanghai and tells the story of how 10-year-old Sam Wing met the young Mogwai called Gizmo.


“A period piece set in 1920s Shanghai, it reveals how a 10-year-old Sam Wing – who becomes the future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 movie – met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. They strike up a lifelong friendship as Wing attempts to return Gizmo to his family, encountering and sometimes battling colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. Meanwhile, the two and street thief Elle are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”

 


The stellar voice cast includes Izaac WangMing-Na WenBD WongJames HongA.J. LoCascioGabrielle Green, and Matthew Rhys.

Tze Chun will write and serve as co-executive producer. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television will executive produce along with Sam Register.

Brendan Hay will also co-executive produce with Dan Krall serving as supervising producer. Amblin will produce in association with Warner Bros. Animation.


HBO Max has already given an early Season 2 renewal to Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.
