We are sad to report the death of film Art Director Alan Tomkins. Tomkins was the art director for Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. His work on the film earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Art Direction. Throughout an incredible career in film Tomkins art directed and contributed to films such as Batman Begins, A Bridge Too Far, JFK, Saving Private Ryan, Die Another Day, Natural Born Killers and Disney’s 101 Dalmations as well as numerous assisting art direction/draughtsmen credits including A View To A Kill, From Russia With Love and work on Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Rutger Hauer, the versatile Dutch leading man of the ’70s who went on star in the 1982 “Blade Runner” as Roy Batty, died July 19 at his home in the Netherlands after a short illness. He was 75.
Christian Bale‘s Caped Crusader is coming back to the big screen for a limited time only to celebrate Batman’s 80th Anniversary.
Batman made his first ever appearance all the way back in March 1939 (in Detective Comics issue #27), which means he has been fighting bad guys, solving crimes and brooding over his parents for a staggering 80 years.
