Freema Agyeman returns to the Doctor Who universe

Tenth Doctor companion Martha Jones returns to the world of Torchwood in January next year. Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who, Sense 8, Line of Duty) starred in series 3 of New Doctor Who and its spin-off show, Torchwood, before going on to a huge career.

Big Finish Productions is delighted that Freema is reprising her role in this new Torchwood story, which explores what Martha did after her adventures with the Doctor.

Review – The Legacy of Time

Review by Jacob Licklider

The Legacy of Time is Big Finish’s big birthday bash, celebrating twenty years of Doctor Who audio drama with six-hour long episodes and two hours of bonus features from writers James Goss, John Dorney, Guy Adams, Matt Fitton and Jonathan Morris. Each story features a doctor from the Third to the Eighth with plenty of companions and cameos along the way. Along with paying tribute to the Doctor Who ranges, a number of spin-offs and one-off characters are also included in the celebrations. Now over the month or so this has been released I have given it two listens in preparation for this review and a fair warning: mild spoilers ahead. Most of the major twists are safe, but minor character and plot details may not be so lucky, so be warned!

Review: Doctor Who – Emissary of the Daleks

Review by Michael Goleniewski

“Emissary of the Daleks” continues the latest Sixth Doctor / Peri trilogy of stories begun with the intrinsically memorable “Memories of a Tyrant” last month. On a remote planet orbiting a solitary star, the Doctor and Peri have landed in order to discover how life has developed on a world with little to no external influences. They soon discover a devastated landscape full of gravestones of the dead and a nearby city on stilts under the control of the new masters of the planet.

Review: The Further Adventures of Lucie Miller (Volume 1)

Review by Michael Goleniewski

The Eighth Doctor / Lucie Miller era is a fan favourite for Whovians; especially among regular Big Finish audio listeners. Sheridan Smith’s Lucie Miller is often regarded and talked about in the same breath as Rose Tyler or Donna Noble and it’s obvious that she left a major impact on the canon. So it’s really not much of a surprise that after her widely successful initial run that lasted for 4 seasons and 28 stories, she would be invited to come back for another go on the site.

Review: Torchwood – Sargasso

Review by Jacob Licklider

Sargasso is my first foray into Big Finish’s Torchwood range and aptly it is a story told from the perspective of the often audience surrogate Rhys Williams. Kai Owen on Torchwood was always; in my opinion, an under-utilised character until the Children of Earth miniseries; so it is fitting that Big Finish gives the character time to shine. Sargasso is also the final release in the “Torchwood vs. Monsters” miniseries, pairing the Torchwood characters with monsters from Doctor Who, this time being the Nestene Consciousness. The Nestene Consciousness is a villain which has been under-utilised on audio, only featuring in the first UNIT box set and a single Eighth Doctor Adventure. Even on television, they have never been used to comment fully on the danger of plastics and pollutions; something rectified here. Christopher Cooper’s script uses the setting of a cargo ship in the middle of the ocean surrounded by plastic pollution. Cooper uses the isolated setting to full effect, creating a horror story with the Autons.
