There are so many places to take short trips and the writers over at Big Finish being ever inventive haven’t run out of styles of storytelling yet. Continue reading

Short Trips Rarities – Museum Peace / Sound The Siren And I’ll Come To You Comrade

Review by Kenton Hall (Director of ‘A Dozen Summers)

Once again, a pair of Short Trips that illustrate just how flexible both the format of Doctor Who itself and the particular style of these narrated short stories can be. These two stories; initially available as subscriber-only bonuses to Big Finish’s main Doctor Who range are now available to all for download. They should both be cherished as they are prime example of what can be done within the format.

Big Finish Review: Doctor Who – Doom Coalition 3

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

After just listening to and reviewing ‘The Chimes at Midnight’ for its Vinyl release it was really interesting to go from the early audio days of the 8th Doctor, when the character was so young and carefree, back into the sometimes darker world of the Doom Coalition series. Definitely the same character, but as we know less about this Doctor on the whole, they have really been able to do a character arc with him, that they might have less freedom to do with the other Doctors.

But back to Doom Coalition 3 and as always with the Doom Coalition series and the 8th Doctor, this delivers hard!

Big Finish – Doctor Who: The Chimes of Midnight Limited Vinyl Edition

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

When Big Finish first got the rights to add the 8th Doctor to their line-up it was such an exciting moment. At the time we only had one TV outing for this Doctor and a few books. Yes, the first adventure sets a tone for a Doctor but there was still so much to know about him. So once we were getting 8th Doctor audio’s what would they do with him? Some of these first audio’s seemed to lean into the suggested psychic powers from the TV movie; others tended more toward a sense of mystery, but the best included a heavy sense of wonder and excitement to them and an adventuring spirit buoyed on by his new companion Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Pollard (Edwardian Adventurer).

Interview: Daphne Ashbrook

Written by Lewis Mainwaring

Daphne Ashbrook is known for both her comic timing and deeply complex emotional portrayals on both the big and small screen. One of her best known roles (and my personal favourite) is that of Dr Grace Holloway in the Doctor Who TV Movie (1996). We recently caught up with her for an interview about her life both on and off screen.
