MILD SPOILERS!

Lisa Bowerman is back once again as the universe’s favourite archaeologist, Bernice Summerfield and as in Vol. 3 she is with David Warner‘s Unbound Doctor trying to save his dying universe. But now the Doctor is President of the Universe and Benny is starting to wonder if that is a good thing or not. Continue reading

Big Finish serve up another set of companion chronicles for the First Doctor, with a very pleasingly broad style and approach to each story. Continue reading

Big Finish legendary writers James Goss & Guy Adams bring 4 brand spanking (and with Jack there would be spanking) new adventures in one set for this Doctor Who & Torchwood favourite character played as always by the wonderful John Barrowman.

Review: UNIT – Assembled

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

Since the launch of the modern day UNIT range, they have always gone big. Stories that feel ‘action-packed’ and with great drama all with the UNIT team of today. Only one thing they haven’t done… bring back the classic UNIT crew. Now that particular box can be ticked too. Continue reading

Audio Review: The Shape Of Things to Come

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

I am as ever impressed by Big Finish’s ability to draw you into a new line.  So with the first 2 audio’s from the H G Wells adaptations they smartly with two of his better known works; The Invisible Man and The First Men in the Moon; both starring already well loved actors in Sir John Hurt and Nigel Planner.

With this third story they have gone for a title that is probably better known than the book. With casting, they have by no means scrimped on the talent with Nicola Walker and Sam Troughton; just maybe not with one name that is universally as well known; just two amazing actors, which I would be surprised if they don’t find their place in the pantheons of the great in time.  Continue reading

Review: Doctor Who – Alien Heart / Dalek Soul

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

I love a little twist on the formatting that Big Finish do and again they have done it with these 2 interlinking stories in one release. Each getting an hour. So you get the pace of a modern 1 hour drama, cliffhangers in the middle and 2 stories that are different but one builds on the other. And in this way you technically get a 4 parter of sorts too

Review: The War Doctor. Vol 4 – Casualties of War

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

It was so bitter sweet listening to this one. Knowing with each world we were hearing the last performance of the War Doctor and what I think is the last of John Hurt at Big Finish.

dwtwd04_casualtiesofwar_1688x1500“The Daleks are coming and when they get here, they will dive on this city. They will fill the air with death & screams, with white hot weapons, fire that burns so brightly it incinerates the tears off you cheeks. Minutes, that’s all it’ll take. Minutes to see everything you ever loved turn to blacked meat and cracked bones.” Continue reading

Review – The Diary of River Song: Series 2

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

Now this one was released during the Christmas period, but my, what a perfect way to kick of the new year!

River Song (Alex Kingston) is paired with not 1, but 2 Doctors in this set; those being 6 & 7, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy. And they manage to do it without River taking a back seat at anytime. Of course it helps when you have as strong a character as River, but it would be easy to have a writer accidentally turn it into a Doctor Who set by another name, this does not happen.drs02_slipcase_1417sq_cover_large Continue reading

Review: Torchwood – Outbreak

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

When The Torchwood Archive was released I was happy. It was a good feature-length story that brought in all incarnations of Torchwood from it’s timeline together in one story. But it was lacking in giving us a full team Torchwood adventure; jumping around time as it did and mainly focusing on a few characters at a time.

This isn’t to slate that great story mind; but I am glad we now have Torchwood: Outbreak as well.
