Review: Torchwood – Dinner and a Show

Review by Jacob Licklider

Mild spoilers

Gareth David-Lloyd contributes this month’s release; implying it is set sometime during Series 2 of the show.  This releases character focus is looking at the ‘sensible’ halves of the relationships on the show, Toshiko Sato in the Tosh/Owen relationship and Ianto in the Ianto/Jack relationship.  A performance of the opera Faust invaded by aliens, many of whom are simply looking to appreciate a different planet’s culture and an alien performer.  It’s also Valentine’s Day and both Owen and Jack have essentially ghosted their significant others.  It is implied that Jack isn’t available and Owen is still being Owen, going off and being unable to grapple with his own emotions.

Review: Torchwood – The Death Of Captain Jack

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

Ok, who Didn’t want to see James Masters back in Torchwood? Yep, no one in their right mind (sorry if you said no, but your wrong on this one, deal with it!) And right from the get go he reminds you of how fun the character of Captain John Hart was/is. Like Captain Jack but without the pesky morals and even more sexually open just when you thought that wasn’t possible. Continue reading

Review: Torchwood One – Before the Fall

Review by Doctor Squee (Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

If you had told me a few years back I would be looking forward to a Torchwood Big Finish release as much as a Doctor Who, I wouldn’t have believed it. Sure the TV show was great; but it’s always Doctor Who first. But Big Finish have done such an amazing job with the Torchwood range as to make it up there with their finest Doctor Who releases.978-1-78703-008-4-1 Continue reading

Big Finish Review: Torchwood – Broken/Made You Look

Review by Doctor Squee (Head Reviewer & Host of Gallifrey Stands Podcast)

Time for a round-up of the latest Big Finish Torchwood releases and my first review since Indie Mac User became an official reviewer for Big Finish (fanfare and bunting released!).

First up we have the long awaited Broken. Exploring the gap between Ianto saying goodbye to his Cyber girlfriend and really stepping into the thick of the action as a full member of the Torchwood team. In a recent panel hosted by yours truly, I got to ask Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto himself) about this adventure…

‘That’s a question quite a lot of fans ask, what happens between Yanto hiding a cyberwoman in the basement and suddenly being promoted to a fully-fledged member of the team. That sort of arc wasn’t really investigated in the show but this is an audio piece that really delves into that and answers a lot of question the fans might have had.’
