Kevin Smith’s ‘Masters Of The Universe: Revelation’ will pay homage to 80s cinema

Kevin Smith and Mattel Television upcoming animated series “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,”  will serve as a direct continuation to the animated series from the 1980s.

“Part 1” of the series will feature five episodes that are all premiering on July 23, and Smith revealed on Twitter over the weekend that each one pays tribute to a 1980s classic.

Showrunner Kevin Smith has today given us our first taste at Masters of the Universe: Revelation; the upcoming Netflix Original anime series created by Smith and based upon the characters of Masters of the Universe in a collaboration between Netflix and Mattel Television. The series is produced by Powerhouse Animation Studio and is the third series produced by the studio after Castlevania and Seis Manos. Smith is joined by four writers; Marc Bernardin (Castle Rock), Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Diya Mishra (October Faction) and Tim Sheridan (The Death and Return of Superman). The trailer was released as part of the ‘Netflix Geeked’ event.

IGN has today revealed details of a prequel comic book tie-in Masters of the Universe: Revelation; the upcoming Netflix Original anime series created by Smith and based upon the characters of Masters of the Universe in a collaboration between Netflix and Mattel Television.  The comic series is being released by indie label Dark Horse Comics.

Killingjoke (1)Fans of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland‘s 1988 definitive one-shot graphic novel – Batman: The Killing Joke, have been waiting a very long time to see a full-length adaptation.

Batman: The Killing Joke is a 2016 American animated superhero film produced by Warner Bros: Animation and distributed by Warner Bros: Pictures. The film is the twenty-sixth film in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies series.


Both the original  graphic novel and this film is set in the fictional U.S. city of Gotham, Batman: The Killing Joke provides an origin story for the supervillain the Joker, loosely adapted from the 1951 story arc “The Man Behind the Red Hood!”.

Taking place over two timelines, The Killing Joke depicts the Joker attempting to drive Jim Gordon insane and Batman’s desperate attempt to stop him.

The film is directed by Sam Liu, written by Brian Azzarello and stars the voices of Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, Tara Strong and Ray Wise. Continue reading

Since it’s announcement by producer Bruce Timm during the Justice League: Gods and Monsters panel at San Diego Comic-Con ’15, there has been a lot of excitement and anticipation for this animated film with both Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their roles as Batman and the Joker, respectively.
