Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is an upcoming animated comedy fantasy streaming television series, to be released on HBO Max, and serve as a prequel to the 1984 film Gremlins and its 1990 sequel The New Batch.
Set in 1920s Shanghai, the series boasts a cast that includes Ming-Na Wen (“Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D,” “The Mandalorian,” “Mulan”), BD Wong (“Mr. Robot,” “Jurassic World”) and James Hong (“Big Trouble in Little China,” “Blade Runner,” “Mulan”). In addition, Matthew Rhys (“The Americans,” “Perry Mason”), has been tapped to voice the half-hour show’s villain.
HBO Max has today announced several new adult-orientated animated shows. The WarnerMedia-backed streamer has handed out a two-season pickup to a Clone High update as well as straight-to-series orders for a Scooby-Doo origin story about Velma from exec producer (and voice star) Mindy Kaling and a workplace entry featuring Pete Davidson.
