For London Trans+ Pride on Saturday (9 July), protesters marched from the historic Wellington Arch by Hyde Park down to Soho Square in the heart of the capital’s queer district.
Heartstopper‘s Yasmin Finney was among more than a thousand frustrated yet joyful LGBTQ+ people protesting against the Tory government’s increasing attacks against trans people.
Finney, a trans actor who plays student Elle Argent in Heartstopper, told Pride-goers in Soho Square that the government is trying to “eradicate” trans people.
During the speech Finney stated that her Doctor Who character Rose is trans.
Finney will be portraying the role of Rose, likely Donna Noble’s teenage daughter, as part of the Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials to air in 2023.

David Tennant and Catherine Tate have been announced to be featuring in scenes that are due to air in 2023 to coincide with the show’s 60th anniversary celebrations alongside Emmy and Tony-winning actor and comedian Neil Patrick Harris.
